The 7 day Marangu Route Kilimanjaro climb is an exciting journey to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa’s highest mountain. Known as the “Coca-Cola Route,” Marangu is one of the most established routes on Kilimanjaro and is unique for offering accommodation in mountain huts rather than tents.
This itinerary takes you from the lush rainforest around Marangu Gate through the heathland, moorland and alpine desert before the final ascent to Uhuru Peak at 5,895 meters (19,341 feet).
With a gradual progression through different ecological zones and hut accommodation along the mountain, this route provides an excellent way to experience Kilimanjaro in one week.

Your 7 day Marangu Route Kilimanjaro adventure begins with your arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport.
A Serengeti Experience representative will meet you at the airport and transfer you to your hotel in Moshi.
After check-in, you will have time to relax and prepare for your climb.
Later, meet your professional mountain guide for a detailed pre-climb briefing. Your guide will explain the trekking schedule, safety procedures, altitude considerations and what to expect during the summit attempt.
At the gate, your guide will complete the registration and park entry procedures while the trekking crew prepares for the journey.
Once ready, begin hiking through the beautiful Kilimanjaro rainforest.
The trail is shaded by tall trees and surrounded by lush vegetation. You may also encounter a variety of bird species and other wildlife along the route.
The first day’s hike is relatively short, giving you the opportunity to gradually adjust to the mountain environment.
After approximately 3–4 hours, arrive at Mandara Hut, where you will have lunch and settle into your mountain accommodation.

The trail gradually leaves the rainforest and enters the heathland and moorland zones.
As the vegetation becomes shorter and more open, spectacular views of the surrounding mountain landscape begin to appear.
On clear days, you may see the impressive peaks of Kibo and Mawenzi.
Continue hiking at a comfortable and steady pace while allowing your body to adjust to the increasing altitude.
After approximately 6–8 hours, arrive at Horombo Hut, situated at around 3,720 meters.
The trail crosses the high-altitude Saddle, the broad area between Mount Kilimanjaro’s Kibo and Mawenzi peaks.
The landscape changes dramatically as you leave the moorland behind and enter the alpine desert zone. Vegetation becomes increasingly sparse and the terrain more rugged.
Your guide will maintain a slow and steady pace to help you conserve energy and cope with the increasing altitude.
After approximately 6 to 8 hours, reach Kibo Hut at 4,703 meters.

You will wake around midnight and begin your ascent in darkness.
As dawn approaches, you will reach the crater rim.
Continue along the rim towards Uhuru Peak, the highest point on Mount Kilimanjaro and the highest point in Africa at 5,895 meters (19,341 feet).
Reaching Uhuru Peak is the highlight of the entire trek.
After spending time at the summit, begin your descent towards Kibo Hut.
The trail takes you through the moorland and heathland before returning to the lush rainforest around Marangu.
As you descend, the air becomes warmer and the vegetation becomes increasingly dense.
Continue towards Marangu Gate, where you will complete the park exit procedures and officially finish your Kilimanjaro trek.
Trekkers who successfully reach Uhuru Peak will receive their Kilimanjaro summit certificates.
Meet your transfer vehicle at the gate and drive back to Moshi.

Enjoy breakfast at your hotel before your departure.
Depending on your flight schedule, you may have free time to relax, explore Moshi or purchase souvenirs.
At the appropriate time, your driver will transfer you to Kilimanjaro International Airport for your flight home or onward journey.
Your 7 day Marangu Route Kilimanjaro climb ends with unforgettable memories of reaching the Roof of Africa.
