The 4 day Mount Meru trek is an exciting Tanzania mountain adventure that takes you to the summit of Mount Meru, the second-highest mountain in Tanzania.
Located within Arusha National Park, Mount Meru offers a spectacular combination of mountain scenery, wildlife, forests, volcanic landscapes and high-altitude trekking. The route begins at Momella Gate and passes through several ecological zones before reaching Socialist Peak at 4,566 meters (14,980 feet).
This itinerary is ideal for travelers looking for a shorter high-altitude trekking experience or those who want to use Mount Meru as preparation for a future Mount Kilimanjaro climb.

Your Mount Meru trekking adventure begins with your arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport or Arusha Airport.
A Serengeti Experience representative will meet you and transfer you to your hotel in Arusha.
After checking in, you will have time to relax and prepare for the trek.
Later, meet your professional mountain guide for a pre-trek briefing. Your guide will explain the trekking itinerary, safety procedures, altitude acclimatization and what to expect during the climb.
The journey takes you through scenic countryside before reaching Momella Gate, where you will complete registration and meet the trekking crew.
Once ready, begin your hike towards Miriakamba Hut.
The trail passes through beautiful montane forest, offering opportunities to observe the natural environment of Arusha National Park. Depending on conditions, you may encounter wildlife such as giraffes, buffaloes and various bird species along the lower sections of the route. Your ranger and guide will advise on safe wildlife viewing.
After approximately 4–6 hours of trekking, arrive at Miriakamba Hut, where you can rest and enjoy the mountain surroundings.

Today’s trail climbs steadily from Miriakamba Hut towards Saddle Hut.
As you gain altitude, the dense forest gradually gives way to the heath zone, creating increasingly open views of the surrounding landscape.
The trail becomes steeper in places, but your guide will maintain a comfortable pace to help with acclimatization.
After approximately 3–5 hours, arrive at Saddle Hut, situated at around 3,570 meters.
After lunch, you may have the opportunity to take a short acclimatization walk towards Little Meru, depending on weather, group condition and your guide’s assessment.
You will wake very early, usually around midnight or shortly after, and begin your summit attempt.
As dawn approaches, you will continue along the crater rim towards Socialist Peak, the highest point on Mount Meru at approximately 4,566 meters (14,980 feet).
Reaching the summit provides spectacular views of Mount Meru’s volcanic crater and, weather permitting, distant views of Mount Kilimanjaro.
Take photographs and celebrate your achievement before beginning the descent.
After completing the park registration procedures, meet your vehicle for the transfer back to Arusha or Moshi.
