The 8 day Machame Route Kilimanjaro climb is an exciting trekking adventure designed for travelers who want to experience Mount Kilimanjaro’s diverse landscapes while gradually ascending toward Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa at 5,895 meters (19,341 feet).
Known as the “Whiskey Route,” the Machame Route is famous for its spectacular scenery, including lush rainforest, heathland, the Shira Plateau, Barranco Wall and high-altitude alpine desert.
This itinerary combines 7 days of trekking with arrival and departure arrangements, making it an excellent choice for travelers looking for a comprehensive Kilimanjaro experience.

Your Kilimanjaro adventure begins with your arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport.
A representative from Serengeti Experience will meet you at the airport and transfer you to your hotel in Moshi.
After check in, you will have time to relax and prepare for your climb. Later, meet your professional mountain guide for a detailed pre-climb briefing.
Your guide will explain the trekking schedule, safety procedures, altitude acclimatization and what to expect during the climb. Your trekking equipment will also be checked to ensure you are properly prepared.
Once everything is ready, begin your Machame Route Kilimanjaro trek through the lush montane rainforest.
The trail winds through dense vegetation, with tall trees, moss-covered branches and opportunities to spot different bird species and other wildlife.
Your guide will maintain a steady pace to help you conserve energy and begin adapting to the increasing altitude.
After approximately 5 to 7 hours of trekking, arrive at Machame Camp, where your mountain crew will prepare your accommodation and dinner.

The trail gradually leaves the rainforest behind as you enter the heathland and moorland zones. The vegetation becomes shorter and the landscape more open, offering increasingly impressive views of Mount Kilimanjaro.
The trek is shorter than the previous day, allowing you to reach camp with time to rest and acclimatize.
After approximately 4 to 6 hours, arrive at Shira Camp, located at around 3,840 meters.
Spend the afternoon relaxing and enjoying views across the Shira Plateau and, weather permitting, towards Kibo Peak.
The trail gradually climbs to higher elevations before descending towards the beautiful Barranco Valley. This change in elevation provides an important acclimatization opportunity.
As you approach Barranco Camp, you will see the impressive Barranco Wall, one of the most recognizable features of the Machame Route.
The surrounding volcanic landscape provides excellent opportunities for photography.
After approximately 5 to 7 hours, arrive at Barranco Camp, where you can rest and enjoy dinner while taking in the mountain scenery.

The trek starts with an ascent of the famous Barranco Wall. Although the wall appears challenging, the route is manageable with the assistance of your experienced mountain guide.
After reaching the top, continue along the mountain ridge before gradually making your way towards Karanga Valley and onward to Barafu Base Camp.
The landscape becomes increasingly barren as you enter the alpine desert.
At approximately 4,600 meters, Barafu Camp serves as the final high camp before your summit attempt.
You will wake around midnight and begin your ascent in the darkness. The trail climbs steadily through the high-altitude terrain toward Stella Point, located on the crater rim.
At 5,895 meters (19,341 feet) above sea level, Uhuru Peak is the highest point on Mount Kilimanjaro and the highest point in Africa.
Reach the summit, celebrate your achievement and take photographs while enjoying the spectacular surroundings, weather permitting.
After spending time at the summit, begin your descent toward Barafu Camp before continuing down to Mweka Camp.

As you lose altitude, the vegetation becomes greener and more tropical. Enjoy the final hours of your Kilimanjaro trek as you make your way towards Mweka Gate.
After approximately 3 to 4 hours, reach Mweka Gate, where you will complete the park exit procedures.
Trekkers who successfully reach Uhuru Peak will receive their Kilimanjaro summit certificates.
Your vehicle will then transfer you back to Moshi.
Enjoy your final breakfast at your hotel in Moshi.
Depending on your flight schedule, you may have free time to relax, explore Moshi or purchase souvenirs before your departure.
At the appropriate time, your driver will transfer you to Kilimanjaro International Airport for your flight home or onward Tanzania adventure.
